Colorado backpacking trip

This weekend Shaun and I went with his cousin Kevin to Colorado. We left on Friday morning at 3:00am. So needless to say I was asleep the entire car ride. Until it was morning I woke up and enjoyed the absolutely gorgeous drive. There were tree's everywhere and large beautiful mountains. I am constantly amazed at the beauty this world has to offer.

We got to the beginning of the hike at about 12:00pm and then we began our hike. We tried to drive Kevins car up the area of tons of rocks. However his car was not able to handle it. We then waited for Kevins brothers friend to come and pick us up in his huge truck. He came and drove us about 2 miles up to the beginning of the actual hike.  We then hiked 2 miles into base camp. Shaun wanted to run part of the trail so I ended up hiking for about an hour by myself. It was actually really refreshing to be able to hike by myself and just enjoy nature.

Friday night it poured! However we did not get wet at all. There were about 12 of us camping. Kevins brother Keith and his son Luke. Then a few other men with their sons. That next morning Shaun, Kevin and Keith all went to hike Crestone which is one of the 14-ers peak. I wanted to go however I had blisters from the hike up to base camp the night before. I slept in after sending Shaun off for his hike. Then I hiked up to the first lake and just walked around. It was absolutely beautiful, not to mention that we were all camped next to a river. It was gorgeous!

That night we had our second mountain house meal. It was a delicious pasta with vegetables, I was actually very impressed. We made smores both nights, and had long talks around the fire. It felt so good to be in nature without any cell phone service.

Sunday- We woke up early and used jet boils to make some oatmeal. Then we quickly packed everything up so that when we got back from our hike we would have everything ready to do. I had placed mole skin on my blisters and made sure to wear double socks. We then hiked up to Humbolt peak. It was my first hike that was 14,000 ft above sea level. It was a hard hike but SO worth it! The view at the top was gorgeous! Keith's son Luke who was 7 years old made it up to the top. I was so proud of him! At the top we were able to have the sacrament. Keith got permission from his bishop for this weekend. It was a very spiritual experience to be able to have the sacrament in one of God's gorgeous creations. It felt nice to be in the presence of so many priesthood holders.

I loved back packing, camping, hiking and fishing. It was a very relaxing weekend and I loved every moment. I am thankful for an adventurous husband and for someone who appreciates nature and trying new things. It was a much needed weekend.

This made me decide that we have to have a boy as our first child :)

Luke was so funny! Shaun was so patient with him.
